Frequently Asked Questions

  • Many people benefit from having a safe space where they can process what's happening in their world. There are many, many types of therapies and reasons people find themselves in need of a therapist. If you're feeling lonely, stressed, overwhelmed, or having difficulties making decisions in your life, therapy may be worth a try!

  • The first session usually starts with reviewing policies, procedures, and expectations. Afterwards, you and your therapist may talk about what your goals are and start getting to know each other (it may feel a mile wide and an inch deep). These first sessions may feel like a lot.

In subsequent sessions, you and your therapist will collaborate on what approach will work best (examples: talk, art, play, sandtray). Your therapist will regularly check-in to make sure the approach works for you. Sessions generally last around 50-55 minutes. Sometimes you may leave therapy feeling on top of the world, while other times you may leave still feeling pretty heavy--both of these responses are normal. If you are leaving sessions feeling unheard, unseen, misunderstood, or unsafe, please notify your therapist or any of our team members.

  • That's okay! Some people find that words don't come easily to them. When that happens, let your therapist know. Your therapist may take an experiential approach involving art, play, sandtray, or mindfulness. Alternatively, you may be meeting too frequently and benefit from spacing sessions out.

  • How long someone attends therapy depends on the individual. You and your therapist will talk about how frequently you should meet and when you may be ready to discharge.

  • We want to encourage communication between client and therapist if you are unable make an appointment. When someone cancels or doesn't show to an appointment, we lose out on pay, are often concerned about your wellbeing, and are unable to offer that spot to someone else.

We have a 72-hour cancellation policy to reduce impact of late cancellations and no-shows. Appointments canceled within 72 hours will result in a $75 charge. No-show appointments will be charged at the full cost of an appointment. Application of late fee/no-show charges are at the discretion of your therapist. We want to work with you and are not interested in sticking you with unjust fees. Missing appointments due to illness and emergency will be greatly considered but does not guarantee waiving a late-cancel/ no-show fee.

We are unable to apply late-cancel and no-show fees to Medicaid clients. Alternatively, late-cancel and no-show's may result in same-week or same-day scheduling and inability to schedule more than one appointment at a time. After three late-cancels/ missed appointments, your therapist may refer you to another provider.

If you have any concerns, please talk to your therapist.
